Vera Poole Godwin, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2023, at Meadows Park in Vidalia, Georgia. She was born on March 3, 1923, in Reidsville, Georgia. Vera was 100 years old at the time of her passing.
Vera led a remarkable life filled with love, compassion, and selflessness. She wore many hats throughout her life and embraced each role with grace and dedication. As a young woman, she worked as a waitress, brightening the days of patrons with her warm smile and friendly nature. Later on, she became a homemaker and poured all her energy into creating a loving and nurturing environment for her family.
One of Vera's most significant contributions to society was her unwavering commitment to foster care. Over the years, she opened her heart and home to thirteen children in need. Vera's dedication as a foster mother touched the lives of numerous young souls who found love and stability under her care. Her selflessness went above and beyond as she provided them with guidance, support, and unconditional love.
In addition to fostering children, Vera embarked on an entrepreneurial venture with her husband. Together they pedaled produce in their community—a testament to their hard work and determination. Their perseverance allowed them to provide for their family while developing strong bonds within their neighborhood.
As retirement years approached, Vera shifted her focus towards caring for the elderly. With remarkable empathy and tenderness, she fulfilled this duty with great dedication.
Outside of her career pursuits, Vera found immense joy in spending quality time with her loved ones. As a devoted wife to her late husband, Cecil, and cherished mother to her children, she valued the importance of family above all else. Vera's role as a grandmother. great grandmother and great great grandmother brought her immeasurable happiness, and she embraced each moment spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Vera will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Cecil Godwin, infant daughter, Virginia Godwin, sons, Zedrie Cecil "Jimmy" Godwin, William Dixon and great grandson, Jeremy Pittman.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, beginning at 10:00 AM at Brannen Family Funeral Services. Followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Brannen Family Funeral Services. Burial will be held in Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
