Vivian was born June 27, 1917, in Tattnall County to the late Bernice Norman and Clara Estella Weitman. In addition to her parents, Vivian is preceded in death by her husband, Judge Dan S. Cowart, and three brothers.
Mrs. Cowart is survived by two daughters, Deanna C. Howell of Bristol, TN, and Jane C. Thorsen and her husband, Gary, of St. Simons Island, GA; four grandchildren, Angelyn Mewborn (Frankie), Keith Rustin (Gayle), Heidi Davis (Roger), and Rachel Lamdin (Robert); six great grandchildren, Alisha Yonce (Gabe), Benjamin, Joshua and Jacob Rustin, Alyssa and Grace Lamdin; one great-great grandchild, Katelyn Silva; one sister, Marcelyn Batchelor; and many nieces and nephews.
Vivian graduated from Glennville High School with honors and was a beautician for many years. However, she considered being a Christian wife and mother to be her highest calling. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Glennville, until she moved to St. Simons Island in 2004. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years, a Girls Auxiliary leader, a member of the choir, and she served her family and friends in ways too numerous to name. Everyone loved "Granny" as she was affectionately called.
Memorial donations can be made to Frederica Baptist Church, 1700 Frederica Rd, St. Simons Island, GA 31522, or the building fund of Glennville First Baptist Church, 321 W. Barnard St, Glennville, GA 30427.
Mrs. Cowart's arrangements have been placed in the care of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home, 206 N. Veterans Blvd, Glennville, GA 30427; ph: 912-654-2060. An on-line registry is available at brannen-kennedy.com.
