William Richard Blanton, 82, passed away peacefully under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice on April 26, 2024.
Richard was born September 18, 1941 to David Jasper Blanton and Eva Mae Stanfield Blanton and lived in Glennville all of his life. In 1961, he met and married the love of his life, Mary Ann Mixon. They spend 63 wonderful years together.
Richard enjoyed a long successful career at the Georgia National Guard Training Center and retired with 34 years of service.
During his retirement, Richard and Mary Ann enjoyed many activities together. He loved to fish and spend time on the Altamaha River. He was one of the best fisherman around and he was always willing and happy to share his latest catch. He enjoyed many fish frys with his friends, family and church family.
Richard was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a member of the Buildings and Grounds Committee, Social Committee and Cemetery Committee. In his late years Richard attended and worshipped closer to home at Northside Baptist Church.
He enjoyed family trips to the mountains, numerous trips with Exclusions Unlimited and watching his grandsons ball games. He loved his family, teaching them the value of hard work and finishing what you started. Richard was a wonderful provider for his family and always wanted to make sure they were taken care of. He was a wonderful, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, that will be missed by all.
Richard is preceded in death by, his wife, Mary Ann Blanton, parents, siblings, Nadine Waters, Mildred Rayborn, Ben Blanton and Jody Blanton.

Virgina Blanton of Jesup, Georgia
Brother-in-law, Jimmy Mixon (Dianne) of Lyons, GeorgiaEight great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Justin Gordon officiating.
