William Wood

William Eugene “Gene” Wood, 82, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Piedmont Newnan Health Care Center. He was born June 12, 1939 in Ft. Valley, Alabama to William Price and Lucy Catherine Wood. He was a US Navy veteran and a retired Lieutenant from Atlanta Police Department after 29 years of dedicated service. He was a Mason and Shriner for 55 years. The simplest pleasures brought great joy to Gene. He adored his wife, Donna, his “perfect” grandchildren, and his children unconditionally. He loved playing golf, traveling, visiting casinos with Donna and spending time with friends and family. He was lovingly known as Grandpa to many, many people, both young and old. All who knew him say Gene was definitely one of the best. He would do anything for anyone, even when he disagreed with choices made by others; he still respected everyone as a person. He treated people the way he wanted to be treated. He also had an uncanny way to make everyone smile, laugh, and feel special. His loyalty, love, and humor will be missed by all. He is preceded in death by parents, sisters, Carolyn Wood and Marjorie Wood, and brothers, Johnny Wood and Billy Thomas Wood.

Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will begin at 12:30 pm, Friday, March 25, 2022 at Harmony United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm, Friday, March 25, 2022 at Harmony United Methodist Church with Dr. Joel Strawn. Burial will follow in the Harmony Church Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites.

Pallbearers will be Sy Kong, Keith Bell, Shawn Kennedy, John Kennedy, Edward Wood, Dion Hughes, Mack Wood and Rudy Jarvis.
