Wynell Durrence, age 86, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2014, after a brief illness. Wynell was born April 29, 1928, growing up in Mendes, Georgia, and graduating from Glennville High School in 1945. Wynell married her Mendes sweetheart, the late Edsel Coy Durrence, in 1948. Although Wynell greatly enjoyed her 19-year employment at the Empire Store in Glennville, her proudest roles were being a farmer's wife and a loving, caring mother. Wynell devoted her life to serving others �½" her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and her church, The Glennville First United Methodist Church. Wynell is preceded in death by her husband, Edsel Coy Durrence; her parents, Jesse Carl and Martha Jo Barber Durrence; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Coy Guyton and Gussie Purvis Durrence; her brother L.P. Durrence and his wife, Lois; her sister, Edith Waters and her husband, Duvon Waters; her husband's brother-in-law, William J. (Bill) Salem; and her precious daughter-in-law, Libby Thompson Durrence.
Wynell is survived by her three children �½" son, Edsel Coy Durrence, Jr; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Randy Roderick; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Brian Threlkeld. Wynell is the kind and generous grandmother of Anna and Charlton Rogers; Amber and Keith Wasson; Addie and Bryan Wiggins; Abigale and Davey Covey; Ashlan and Jonathan Porter; Ric and Shelley Roderick; Renna Roderick; Edie Threlkeld; and Emily Threlkeld; as well as ten great-grandchildren.
Wynell's surviving siblings include Annette Oliver, Elton Durrence, Ruby Jo Durrence, Sally Dutton, Mary Sue and R.L. Dasher, and Gene and Sandra Durrence, as well as her sister-in-law, Marilyn Durrence Salem.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville, GA, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 25th, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Glennville First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Loves Chapel Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Pinewood Christian Academy, P.O. Box 7, Bellville, GA 30414.
